We know that LeMans is a classic race but do you know about the LeMans Classic?

Kinja'd!!!

This weekend they'll be racing the LeMans circuit in vintage racers. And if all goes well I'll have on-track footage. meanwhile here's a snooty French guy talking about it.

Laurent Nivalle has some seriously beautiful series of photos of the Classic.

After watching Goodwood and some of the carnage there, I wonder if these owners have so much money that they don't care if a beautiful, and in some cases, priceless vintage racer gets wrecked.

Trust me, they care. Some don't race full out, others push it and live with the consequences. Most carry insurance to cover repairs, loss etc. One owner/friend crashed Jimmy Clark's Lotus 49 and it will require major rebuilding. And it will be done. He's at one end of the scale. There are others with less notable and less expensive cars and they treat them according to their budget and desire to win. And they all think their car is the most beautiful car ever made. This racing is a love of machine and sport. Which is why these cars aren't in a museum.

Have to agree with you on that. I'm pretty sure most of those race cars have been hit in their first lives, so it is not like you are desecrating a virgin machine.
